Empowering Charter Schools: Uniting through Advocacy Training

In the ever-changing landscape of education, charter schools play a crucial role in offering innovative and alternative approaches to learning. As we approach the 2024 legislative session, it is imperative for our coalition to equip ourselves with the tools necessary to advocate effectively for schools of choice. One powerful way to do so is by harnessing the collective voice of more parents with students currently enrolled in a school of choice.

The Coalition of Idaho Charter School Families can build upon our years of legislative successes and create an even bigger, more lasting impact on policies that directly affect your students' education. Our goal for this winter is to recruit and train two strong parent volunteers from each charter school in preparation for the most important legislative session for charter schools in a decade.

Why A Charter School Administrator Should Nomnate Two Parents From Their School

1. Amplify Your School's Voice: Charter schools face unique challenges and opportunities, and it is essential to have a strong presence in the legislative arena. By investing in advocacy training for parent volunteers, charter school administrators can empower parents to become effective advocates for their schools. These volunteers can learn how to articulate the school's mission, achievements, and challenges to lawmakers, helping to shape legislation that supports charter school growth and success.

2. Build Relationships with Legislators: Legislators are more likely to be receptive to the needs of charter schools when they hear directly from passionate parents. Parent advocates can establish personal connections with policymakers by sharing their personal stories and the positive impact their charter school has had on their children's lives. Through advocacy training, volunteers can learn how to navigate the legislative process, understand the key issues, and build relationships that can influence decision-making.

3. Strengthen Community Engagement: Involving parents as advocates not only benefits charter schools but also strengthens the bond between the school and its community. When parents actively participate in advocating for their children's education, it fosters a sense of ownership and commitment to the school's success. By engaging parents in advocacy training, charter school administrators can cultivate a culture of involvement and empower parents to play an active role in shaping the future of their children's education.

As charter school administrators, it is crucial to seize the opportunity to make a difference in the legislative landscape. By providing advocacy training to two dedicated parent volunteers, charter schools can amplify their voice, build relationships with legislators, and strengthen community engagement. Together, we can ensure that charter schools receive the support they need to continue providing innovative educational opportunities for our children. Let us unite, empower, and advocate for the success of our charter schools in the 2024 legislature.

Advocacy Matters

If you are a school administrator and are struggling to get the support that you need from the government, then we want to help. The best way to approach the government is to harness the power of our parents. When parents become advocates, they can help your school get the support it needs.

2022 legislative session had over 500 parents contact legislators and the governor’s office in support of charter schools.

On this page, you will find resources that you can send to parents to teach them to become advocates, they will get the all the training and support they need. The benefit is two-fold, you as a school get the support you need, and your child gets the best education you can provide for them.
